Five artists from across the United States will show their latest work at the
Lounge Gallery in Dalston. The elusive nature of the work implies a sense of
removal, and the shifting nature of American identity. At the same time, subject
matter and medium differ from artist to artist.
· Dana Brintz builds layer upon layer of resin abstract forms, shapes and colours to produce sculptural pieces hung on walls, at once revealing and concealing different perspectives.
· Michael De Guzman's photographs illustrate the complexity involved in defining, interpreting and contextualising the identities of those who are at the juncture of numerous social, cultural and ethnic groups.
· Gwendolyn Noel Repass explores the experience of female sexuality through paintings and drawings - including abstract images ranging from vaginas to dogs.
· Christopher Rochelle uses a combination of digital photographic equipment, with 200 year old techniques to make images of nature imbued with a sense of foreboding.
· Carlton Scott Sturgill's paintings are concerned with the pervasiveness of sexual nature in contrast to American cultural constructions that blind people to this reality.
